I did a Beauty Bay haul post a couple of weeks ago and one of the products I mentioned buying was the Glycolic Acid 7% from The Ordinary and so many people told me they’d be interested in seeing a follow-up post about how I’ve gotten on with it! So here we are.
The Ordinary websites states: “Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. This 7% toning solution offers mild exfoliation for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture with continued use.”
While I can’t say it has improved the radiance of my skin, it does feel tighter and more toned and I do feel like the texture of my skin has benefited from using the acid. I’ve always suffered with having one incredibly smooth cheeky, and one that was a little rough and bumpy and while the roughness still lingers, I can definitely feel it has improved massively since using this product.
Another thing that I’ve always found problematic about my face is that my cheeks glow luminous red, or they did when I was younger, not so much anymore. But I’ve tried numerous products to help diminish my bright red cheeks and though I know this isn’t stated in what the product does, I do feel that the Glycolic Acid has helped even out my skin tone a little (though I think I still prefer the Estee Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher for this job).
Onto the negatives. The acid doesn’t smell too great, and it does make your face feel a little bit sticky once you’ve wiped it over with a cotton pad, both of these effects disappear when you apply your moisturiser afterwards – assuming your moisturiser smells nice, of course.
I’m not really one to get too many spots, but my face broke out quite a lot when I started using it. This cleared up after a couple of days of using it, so I assume it was just cleansing everything out of my pores to clear and tone my skin.
When I started using it, I did so every night after I washed my face but I found it made my skin start to feel a bit oily – again, I’ve never really suffered from oily skin, I’m usually in the region of dry to normal. I found that using it every two to three days worked better for me and my skin could reap the toning effects without feeling oily.
Now this point, I can’t for sure say whether it’s due to the acid, or due to the change in weather or a number of other uncontrollable factors, but my skin has been feeling a lot more sensitive lately. Applying my moisturiser and foundation on my face has definitely been a little more uncomfortable as of late, with a slight stinging/tingling sensation, though my foundation does sit better on my skin. I’m going to keep going with the bottle I have to see if this improves over time but if not, I don’t know if this is a product I will be re-buying.
